Verify Pitt County Supervision

Pitt County parole and probation records answer a different question from a jail roster. A person can be out of prison or the county jail while still subject to community supervision in North Carolina. To verify Pitt County post-release supervision, first identify whether the record concerns probation, parole, or post-release supervision. Then compare the state corrections profile with the local supervision office and the court case. Each source has a narrow role. A release date confirms an exit from confinement, while an active supervision status shows that legal duties may continue in the community.

Pitt County Parole and Probation

North Carolina uses three forms of community supervision. Probation is imposed by a court, often with an active prison term suspended as long as the person follows stated conditions. Parole is discretionary early release from prison and now applies mainly to sentences under older law. Post-release supervision, often called PRS, is the required community part of many modern state prison sentences. Crimes committed on or after October 1, 1994 generally are not eligible for ordinary parole because Structured Sentencing replaced it with PRS.

All three may be administered through the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction, but they do not mean the same thing. A Pitt County court judgment can place someone on probation without a state prison stay. A parole or PRS record usually follows physical release from NCDAC confinement. The NCDAC Offender Public Information search separates Inmate Status from Probation/Parole/Post Release Status. Read both fields. An inactive inmate with active supervision has left prison but has not completed all correctional obligations.

Supervision typeHow it beginsWhat to verify
ProbationA Pitt County court orders community supervision, often instead of an active term.Court judgment, OPI supervision status, and assigned office.
ParoleThe Parole Commission approves early release for an eligible older-law sentence.Actual release, parole status, and Commission or supervision records.
Post-release supervisionA state prisoner reaches the community portion of a Structured Sentencing term.Actual release date and the separate PRS status in OPI.
Discharge
The formal end of the applicable supervision or sentence, not merely release from a jail or prison.
Absconder
A person recorded as having left required contact or compliance while supervision remains active.
Revocation
A legal action that can return a supervised person to custody after a violation finding.

Verify Pitt County Supervision

Start with identity, not status. A name alone can match more than one North Carolina record. Use a known birth date, middle name, offender number, Pitt case number, or a sound event timeline. Then follow the status from confinement to the community. The goal is to confirm the correct person and to avoid treating physical release as final discharge.

  1. Search the ordinary NCDAC OPI page. Keep the status broad if the current category is not known.
  2. Open the matching record and compare the offender number, birth information, conviction, location, and sentence history.
  3. Read Inmate Status and Probation/Parole/Post Release Status as two separate facts. Also note the actual release date and last movement.
  4. If the record shows Pitt County supervision, confirm the current office through the NCDAC district directory.
  5. Use the Pitt County court case when the question concerns a probation judgment, modification, violation, or discharge order.
Release is not discharge. Leaving Pitt County Detention Center or a state prison ends one custody event. Active probation, parole, or PRS can continue afterward.

NC SAVAN through VINELink can relay a release or custody event for a matching county-jail or state-prison record. It is useful corroboration, not a certified supervision document. A person missing from a roster or notification service may have transferred, been released, fallen outside the display period, or appeared under different data. Confirm the status with the agency that owns it.

Note: Record the date checked because supervision status can change even when the historical prison release date stays the same.

Read Pitt County Release Status

NCDAC history may contain several commitments, projected dates, actual dates, and movements. Match the supervision line to the right sentence period. For a completed state prison event, an Actual Release Date and release movement are stronger than an old projected date. If the actual release type indicates parole or return to parole and the supervision field remains active, describe both facts: the person left confinement and remains under community supervision.

County-jail release needs a different path. The Pitt detainee search, current detainees only, does not preserve a verified release archive. Absence does not reveal bond, time served, transfer, or another release reason. Pitt County Detention Center can confirm its release or transfer field, while the court record supplies the legal order. A transfer to NCDAC, ICE, the U.S. Marshals Service, or another jail is not community release. The receiving system must be checked next.

The full county release-record sequence appears on the Pitt County released inmates search. It helps reconcile the jail event, court authority, NCDAC movement, and continued supervision without merging them into one status.

Pitt County Supervision Office

Pitt County is part of NCDAC Community Supervision Judicial District 3 with Carteret, Craven, Onslow, and Pamlico counties. The official directory lists a Greenville office as the local route for probation, parole, and PRS questions tied to Pitt County. The directory used for this record was dated July 15, 2024, although an October 2025 NCDAC announcement still placed Pitt in District 3. Verify the current assignment before naming an officer or visiting.

The local office can verify its own supervision assignment. The North Carolina Post-Release Supervision and Parole Commission has a different role in parole and PRS decisions. Its Raleigh office is at 2020 Yonkers Road, 4222 Mail Service Center, Raleigh, NC 27699-4222, with telephone 919-716-3010. A call does not replace a judgment, release record, or formal discharge document.

Pitt County Absconder Status

NCDAC maintains a separate Absconder Search that can be filtered by County of Supervision = Pitt. This is not a list of people who completed supervision. An absconder entry means NCDAC records the person as having left required contact or compliance while a supervision term remains open. It also does not, by itself, explain whether a warrant has been served or the person has returned to custody.

Match the offender number and identity before drawing any conclusion. Check the ordinary OPI profile as well, since the prison and supervision status fields may supply context. Then contact District 3 for current information. Status can change after the search was captured. A later absconder entry does not erase the historic date on which the person left prison; it changes the account of present supervision.

The official Pitt-filterable absconder interface provides the relevant statewide search fields.

Use the current result and local office confirmation together rather than treating an old screenshot as live status.

Note: An absconder result signals alleged noncompliance during supervision; it is not proof of completed discharge or current physical custody.

Pitt County Release Conditions

Conditions differ by judgment, release authority, and person. They may require reporting, approved travel, treatment, fees, or compliance with specific court and supervision directions. A general statute or web profile cannot supply every term. The signed court judgment, Commission document, and supervising office record control the particular case. When a condition is unclear, ask for the existing order rather than relying on a summary.

A suspected violation does not automatically establish revocation. The agency and court process determine the response. Revocation means supervision is canceled through the applicable legal process and the person may return to confinement. Other outcomes may modify conditions or continue supervision. If NCDAC shows a later movement after release, reconcile that event with the matching sentence and case. VINELink may send a custody notice, but the court or NCDAC record explains the legal status.

North Carolina law also makes the distinction between PRS and final sentence completion important. Under G.S. 15A-1368.2, PRS is part of the sentence. Completion terminates the sentence from which PRS began, while revocation and return can create later movement and release events.

Pitt County Reentry Support

The Pitt County Sheriff's Detention Programs Unit describes work on accountability, emotional well-being, practical skills, and preparation for reentry. Pitt also has a Local Reentry Council and a current NCDAC resource network. These programs form a local bridge between confinement and community life, but participation does not prove that a person was released or that a service will accept a specific referral.

Pitt Community College served as an intermediary for the local council and hosted a Joint Reentry Council meeting in May 2026. Current contacts and service terms should be checked through the NCDAC Pitt County reentry resources. Supervision duties still come from the court, Commission, and assigned officer. A support program cannot change them.

The Sheriff's official detention-program page documents the local reentry focus.

When Pitt Supervision Ends

Final discharge should be verified as its own event. An inactive inmate status proves only that the person is not shown as an active state prisoner. A release alert proves only the event reported by the source system. Neither one alone proves that probation, parole, or PRS ended. Look for an inactive supervision status, the relevant discharge or termination entry, and a matching order when the court controls the term.

Expunction timing can also depend on completion of supervision. For many eligible North Carolina cases, the waiting period in G.S. 15A-145.5 runs from the later of conviction or completion of incarceration, probation, or PRS. Physical release may therefore occur well before the applicable period starts. Eligibility depends on the exact case and statute; the key records task is to establish both the custody end and the supervision end without treating them as one date.

Note: Use at least one identifier beyond a name and preserve the observation date when documenting a Pitt County supervision result.
