PCDC Release Paths

Pitt County Detention Center is the county's adult local jail. A person can leave after posting bond, meeting court conditions, serving a sentence, receiving credit for time served, or obtaining a dismissal when no other hold remains. The exit may instead be a transfer to NCDAC, another county, the U.S. Marshals Service, ICE, a hospital, or another lawful custodian. These events all remove a person from PCDC, but only some place the person in the community.

The detention center records its own custody boundary. The Pitt court file supplies the order or judgment behind many departures. If another agency accepts custody, its database or records describe what happened next. A transfer to NCDAC is not a state-prison discharge, and an ICE detainer is not proof that ICE completed a pickup. Use the recorded destination or receiving agency before choosing the word “released.”

Confirm a PCDC Release

The official Pitt detainee application repeatedly describes its scope as current detainees only. It refreshes hourly and accepts a full booking number, a full or partial first and last name, and date inputs. Blank fields return all active detainees. Those controls do not make it a released-person archive.

1. Search the current list and match the full or partial name with a booking number, case information, and other available details.
2. If a matching current record is visible, save its booking and case numbers before status changes.
3. If the person is absent, call Inmate Information and ask whether the existing record shows a release, transfer, or other departure, with date and time.
4. Check the Pitt court case for a bond order, dismissal, judgment, time-served credit, suspended sentence, or probation order.
5. Use NC SAVAN/VINELink for a matching reported custody event. If PCDC names another custodian, confirm the later status there.

A VINE alert is corroboration, not a certified record. Likewise, a court order may precede physical processing. The strongest local account joins the PCDC event to the matching court authority.

Request PCDC Release Records

A written request should identify an existing record instead of asking staff to explain or reconstruct events. Include the full name, a known birth detail when suitable, booking number, approximate admission and release range, and case number. Request the booking date, release date and time, recorded type or authority, and destination or receiving agency if the event was a transfer. A booking photograph is a separate requested item whose disclosure depends on legal classification.

Ask for an electronic copy in its existing form and request that exempt parts be redacted while the public portions are released. Under North Carolina Chapter 132, ordinary copies may be charged at actual reproduction cost, and an extensive request may carry a reasonable special-service charge. There is no universal fixed number of response days. The governing standard is “as promptly as possible.” An agency need not create a report it does not maintain.

What PCDC Release Records Show

A complete local release inquiry answers identity, the custody spell that ended, the legal authority or exit type, and any destination that continued custody. Pitt does not publish a verified public release-reason codebook, so no source supports claiming that a specific list of labels will appear online. Request the fields and report the custodian's wording.

A booking record and a legal disposition serve different purposes. A bond order authorizes release once its terms and all other holds are cleared. A judgment can impose time served, an active term, a suspended term, or probation. Neither necessarily gives the moment PCDC finished release processing.

Note: Request the custodian's actual field label instead of assigning an unsourced release-reason code to a missing roster entry.

PCDC Bond Release Routes

Pitt's official How to Post Bond instructions describe cash, property, and surety bonds. Cash requires the amount set by the judge. Property requires qualifying real estate and Clerk or court steps. A surety route uses a licensed bondsman. The current source should be checked for exact procedure rather than relying on an old summary.

The Sheriff stresses that PCDC does not set bond, change a court date, decide guilt, or determine punishment. Jail staff carry out the authority received from the court. Posting bond is also not a disposition of the charge. The case can remain pending after the person leaves physical custody.

Bond

A financial or legal condition that can permit pretrial release.

Time served

Credit that satisfies the period of confinement ordered in a case.

Transfer

A change of custodian, not a community release.

Probation

Court-ordered community supervision, often instead of an active term.

PCDC Current Roster Limits

No official Pitt County 24-hour, 48-hour, or 72-hour released-inmate feed was verified. The public application says current detainees and active detainees. It also gives no promise that a released record remains online for a fixed period or that date fields filter by release time. Calling that list a recent-release feed would misstate its scope.

For a very recent event, check the active list, call PCDC, review the court case, and check NC SAVAN/VINELink. If the person left a state prison and was recorded as released to Pitt, use NCDAC's monthly Inmate Releases search. That statewide dataset is not a PCDC list and cannot be merged with local bond-outs or time-served releases.

The current roster may show charge, sentence, and bond data while the person remains confined. Once the record drops away, a targeted request keyed to the booking number is the durable route.

Note: Save the booking number while a current record is visible because it can make a later release request far more precise.

PCDC Medical Discharge Planning

Pitt's adopted 2026 jail medical plan provides unusually specific release-continuity detail. Detainees with medical needs are to receive a diagnosis summary, medication list, prescriptions or a short supply, referrals, and public-health follow-up for communicable disease as appropriate. If release happens during hospitalization, PCDC must coordinate with the hospital. When custody transfers to another facility, medical records and medication travel as the law permits.

These rules protect continuity of care at the release boundary. They do not create a public medical-release log, and they do not support asking for a person's confidential health information. The plan is systemwide evidence about process, while the PCDC custody record remains the source for a named person's release or transfer event.

PCDC Contacts and Scope

The Sheriff's PCDC page lists the adult detention facility at 124 New Hope Road in Greenville. It directs calls about charges and conditions of release to Inmate Information. The facility holds people in local pretrial and sentence-related custody, but its departure record does not necessarily describe all events after another agency accepts control.

After a PCDC Transfer

A person transferred from PCDC to NCDAC should be searched in Offender Public Information. Read Inmate Status apart from Probation, Parole, or Post Release Status. If the departure involves BOP, a past federal release date confirms exit from BOP only. ICE ODLS covers current detainees and some people recently released from ICE, with exclusions and possible lag. USMS has no general public released-prisoner locator, so federal court or an agency record may be needed.

Juvenile detention requires a different route. Pitt Regional Juvenile Detention Center is a state youth facility, and juvenile custody records are confidential. An authorized family member, counsel, or juvenile court should handle those questions. A child's absence must never be treated like an adult roster event.
